Young or Old, Vaccines Save Lives
Recommended vaccinations for adults *
- Influenza: Annually (prior to winter flu season) for all persons older than 6 months old.
- Pneumococcal: (cause of respiratory infections including pneumonia) for all over age 50 or immunocompromised.
- Hepatitis B: Series recommended for everyone (most adults were not immunized during childhood).
- Tetanus: Booster every 10 years (5 years with tetanus prone wound). Adults and adolescents age 11-18 should receive 1 dose of Tdap for added protection against Pertussis.
- MMR: Adults born after 1956 who had not completed the 2 dose series.
- Hepatitis A: Transmission thru contaminated food and water (raw shell fish; foods prepared by an infected food handler)
- Meningococcus: cause of fatal bacterial meningitis in healthy persons; recommended by some colleges.
- Varicella (chickenpox): People 13 years of age and older (who have never had chickenpox or received chickenpox vaccine) should get two doses at least 28 days apart.
